Philosophy and Approach
My approach to supervision holds that as humans, we have ‘heroic’ impulses to change the world every day, and are prevented from acting on those impulses by a lack of practice, societal disenfranchisement, and knowledge on how to do so. As your supervisor, I will support you in bridging knowledge gaps, clarifying your innate wisdom, and taking action towards a professional life which aligns your values and highest hopes with your practice.
As a supervisor and clinician, I also hold awareness that the field of counseling is known for its theft of wisdom from communities it has helped to destroy, its alignment with carceral systems, and its violence towards those it claims to serve. Similarly, clinical supervision is known to uphold the racist, ableist, and classist gatekeeping strategies that have long populated this field with largely white and privileged clinicians. This awareness helps me to actively and responsibly work against the inertia of this field to support clients and supervisees in reconnecting with their most liberated selves.
To do this in a supervisory context, I blend the applied participatory ethics model with a hierarchy-conscious critical liberation model of supervision. I use these models to support collaboration in growing an ethical, client-centered, liberatory practice of counseling. I utilize tools such as experiential education, video review, role play, and ecowellness to support supervisees in their journey as clinicians. By the end of our relationship, I hope that supervisees will feel confident in not only finding an answer to ethical challenges, but also be able to show clients–and know themselves–how they arrived at that answer in a collaborative and client-centered way.
Formal Education and Training
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Neuroscience from Hope College, and a Master’s degree in Counseling from Oregon State University. Major coursework for my Master’s degree included human growth and development, with an emphasis on the impacts of trauma on children, adolescents, and adults, group dynamics, addictions, family and grief work, as well as trauma-informed care. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Oregon, as well as a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC).
I am a Certified Level II Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapist, and have completed the Step One training in Somatic IFS. I have completed Level I training in Brainspotting, as well as trainings in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, ASIST and CAMs approaches to suicide intervention, Body Liberation, and Clinical Supervision (30 hours of training as of June 2025). I am a student of Critical Liberation, and pursue the practice and education around liberation work in all areas of my life. I have also been trained in meditation practices such as Transparent Communication.
Areas of Competence
Along with general mental health counseling for teens, adults, relationships, and elders, I offer supervision in the following specialty areas:
Dissociation and Dissociative Identity Disorder/extreme multiplicity
Complex Trauma/PTSD
Attachment Trauma, sometimes pathologized as “Borderline Personality Disorder”
Deepening and expanding skillfulness with the Internal Family Systems model
Integrating liberation frameworks into counseling practice
Supervision and Ethical Standards
As a licensee with the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists, I abide by its Code of Ethics. To maintain my license, I am required to participate in continuing education, taking classes dealing with subjects relevant to this profession. As a new clinical supervisor, I abide by those same codes and ethics, as well as the CCE Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) Code of Ethics. I also receive supervision of supervision from James Gurule, LPC to support my continued learning and adherence to the highest standards of ethical care.
Limits to Confidentiality
While I will make every reasonable effort to maintain the confidentiality of supervisees and any client information provided as part of supervision, there is currently no provision for confidentiality between supervisor and supervisee under Oregon laws. The following scenarios may require the sharing of confidential information:
Any scenario which requires mandatory reporting as defined by Oregon state laws
Ethical code violations as defined by the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and the ACA Code of Ethics, currently the code used to determine state law in Oregon
Violations of laws or other legal proceedings relating to the profession and supervision
Failure to follow state guidelines (note: these guidelines differ if you are a Registered Associate)
Sharing of information within group supervision contexts
Sharing of information for the purposes of my own supervision as a superviso
Supervisees will include in their Professional Disclosure Statement and Consent forms that they are under supervision, and that client information may be shared with the supervisor as a requirement of supervision. That statement will align with the requirements of the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors.
